A few months ago, everything was strange. News came in about a funny sounding virus, but otherwise life was busy bustling and moving at the speed of light. And then, within a matter of days, everything stopped. The mood changed. Some got sick, others worried, most stayed home, and some realized their dream wedding would be affected by a global pandemic that caught everyone by surprise. One month in, we thought this would be over soon, and life as we knew it would be inconveniently postponed a few months down the line. But the longer we stay in this, the more probable that this is sticking around for a bit longer. It’s becoming increasingly more clear that we won’t be going back to the same ways. Change is inevitable, and in order to find our new normal, being flexible is most important.
So we got to thinking here at Aperture - what does this foreseeable new future look like? Well… I think it looks a little bit something like this - an intimate ceremony we shot with our most recent couple, Sarah and Andrew.
When a shutter-in-place kept their dream wedding from happening, they got to working as quickly as possible, and devised a new plan. We asked the couple what they took away from the entire experience, and their response was incredible: a story of people coming together.
“With all that was happening and Sarah’s grandfather being sick, we thought it would be best to move up the wedding. So we put together a wedding in a week! It couldn’t have been done without both of our families. Jorgensen’s florist Kelly Gieger was incredible and made the beautiful bouquet and boutonniere, and donated her time to decorate the ceremony area arbor. Then squire Galbreath donated Darby Dan Farms and his family home for the ceremony - he goes to our church and when he heard what was happening, he graciously donated his personal home! Our next door neighbors helped set up and tear down the everything, and made the adorable champagne table for the toast at the end. We ended up with having an Italian meal at my parents house and paying games in the yard, and a sparkler send off at the end.
It was not the wedding we dreamed or envisioned, but it was perfect in its own way. Having the ones that love us the most and support us the most there, coming together, and rallying behind us was humbling. And most importantly, having those moments captured and memorialized mean the world for us!”
To all of our our couples, current and future - we hope this gives you some comfort and hope. Love is not cancelled. Celebrations are not cancelled. There are ways to move forward, and we are here for you to guide you through it, and to leave you with the lasting moments captured on photographs. This will be part of your story - the story you tell your children and grandchildren, the one that ends with: and in the end, love prevailed.
